A contest in unleashed mentality
If you missed the chance to fly your wardrobe at Beglika Fest '09, this year Beglika gives you the opportunity to make it float. MAD DUCKLING, the festival of self-made floating devices, invites you to try your inventive spirit and emerge with wings, rakes, shovels, fins, smile, wave, flip-flap, mermaid’s tails, fins and dolphins’ cheer!
Sailing Race
In this course participants will compete with their ships with self-made sails. Sheets, umbrellas, rugs, dummies, skylark’s wings and other weird gimmicks that can get your boat to float through and over waves. You can participate individually or as a crew. We will assess the distance and speed of shipping, the madness of duckling you have created, and the ease with which you operate it.
Rowing Race
If you cannot get the duck to fly with the wind in his wings, use the muscle force of any number of your limbs. Duck-kayaking, canoeing with variations, leg-a-boat, leg-a-swim, basin with ambitions - find your own Robinson and row your way to the finish line! We shall be assessing the distance rowed, the speed, cleanliness of muscle gasoline and the charm of the vessel.
Most attractive submergence
Since we believe that it’s the road and the search that matter, and also because some ducks are skilled divers, we will award the most elegant and spectacular sinking reached at the above-mentioned races. So if /when you decide to pursue an underwater trail, do it selflessly and true as a penguin after fish.
Tip: take along empty bottles of water (or beer), sticks, rubber bands, glue, any other high-tech alloys and ... let your duckling float as green and nature-friendly as possible!
